Today I Write It Down

The day was hot,
People stayed indoor a lot,
While I was mopping the floor,
I heard a knock at my door.
I looked outside,
It was a boy with a bike.
He looked tired and red,
Smiling nervously, he said:
“Could I interest you an initial 3-month newspaper subscription?
I am raising fund for my college education.”
“How much?”
“$20.”
I made an instant decision,
Paid him in cash to his satisfaction.
The boy was gone,
I was left alone.
Listening to a soft song,
I pictured the PRIDE of the newspaper boy!
Months have gone by,
The impression of the boy refuses to die.
Today I write it down,
Wishing him a bright future on his own.

*****
This is based on my real experience!
I submit this to ABC Wednesday, P is 4 Pride.
This is also Thursday Poets Rally Week 32 Entry.
Enjoy!
Happy November To You all!

I always need to write stuff down! But this sounds so lasting. "Months have gone by,
The impression of the boy refuses to die.
Today I write it down,"
killer lines.

It's odd what sticks in our heads sometimes - now watch you'll see the paperboy on the news being arrested for streaking along the soccer field with his college colours painted on his buttocks!

You're my 18th Rally 32 comment, Jingle. I like your story--I always buy the girl scout cookies or whatever; it takes me back to how much I hoped for a sale when I was a kid doing it. I don't know if I can read and comment so much on so many people every week, but I do think what you're doing is worthwhile, encourages people, and has exposed me to a lot of good new writing. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing your poem link when you commented on my blog! I have already visited quite a few people...almost all newcomers...but I did not comment on the poem you had linked in for every case...Might not be at a total of 18 yet. I remember the rules and won't forget so you do not have to worry about spending the little amount of free time you have (you have to be busy!!) reminding me...That is just too much work! I dont know how anyone can visit and read so much poetry like you!

Thanks for visiting and I will get back to you...

Thanks for sharing this beautiful experience Jingle...the happiness is profound when we could help others who are very much willing to improve their lot in life...and sharing would help others do the same thing!

Helping others is one pure bliss. I know this because I have sent two girls in college and will continue to send more after they will graduate this coming March....I feel it is my mission on earth!

Will be visiting others once am back from church Jingle! Have a nice weekend... :-)

what a great story, and what a great thing to write a poem about.

I had a young man in my neighborhood who used to come by and bargain with me, so he could do work in my yard for pay. I know that he is going to grow into a great business man! Your poem reminded me of him.

nice poem

Really sweet little poem! I totally indentify with that feeling of just having to write something down, or else it'll never stop sitting in your mind!

I loved it! Real life experiences make for some great poetry. Wow you have a lot of blogs. Didn't know about this one!
As for the poems I've read and commented on, I've lost count. Will have to count it up and see how many more I need and try to do more too.

We never know how much we help others with the simplest loving gesture, i.e., a smile, a willingness to sit and listen without giving advice, writing a poem that inspires or comforts another, etc. When we act from a position of love, that energy goes out and touches people in profound ways, the newspaper boy, each of us that read your poem, people we touch, etc. Well done for helping the boy and sharing the experience with us! Hugs, pat
