Meetings and Conferences

The meetings and conferences of the AMS provide members of the mathematical community with an environment that is stimulating, rewarding, well-organized, and affordable. Members have the opportunity to network informally with colleagues. Start here to begin exploring the meetings and conferences that we offer and how they can make a positive difference for you.

National Meetings

Generally known as the Joint Mathematics Meetings, the national meetings of AMS are held annually for the purpose of advancing mathematical achievement, encouraging research, and providing the communication necessary to progress in the field.

International Meetings

The AMS joins a host society from another country once a year to organize these meetings for members of the mathematical community both in the U.S. and abroad.

Sectional Meetings

The AMS holds eight sectional meetings annually. Generally, there is one meeting in the spring and one in the fall in each section of the U.S.

AMS Short Courses

The AMS offers one or two short courses each year in conjunction with the Joint Mathematics Meetings.

AMS Conferences

The AMS offers regularly scheduled conferences, usually held during the summer, in a relaxed atmosphere such as a university campus or a resort. The two types of conferences in this category are the Mathematics Research Communities and the AMS von Neumann Symposia.

Special Lectures

The AMS hosts a variety of special lectures at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, sectional meetings, and other conferences. These special lectures include the Arnold Ross Lectures, the Colloquium Lectures, the Current Events Bulletin Lectures, the Einstein Public Lectures in Mathematics, the Erdös Memorial Lectures, and the Gibbs Lectures.
