Today's Blues

The show has been shut down till further notice,
as you might have guessed,
The hosts have gone to winter vacation,
Performers on tip-toe are bidding for a bonus pay,
The assistants have started to type their memoirs,
Fans who refuse to leave
are given opportunity to
reserve their seats for tomorrow,
A lonely stage sits in sharp winds,
whining silently life poetry
that nobody will hear,
No need to investigate,
The show is closed for now
until further notice.

Well every theater must close from time to time. Its many friends must remain in the cold till the fateful day the stage beacons their return. Well Done piece here and i feel it has strong undertones, unknown by the reader. Enjoy the rally and thanks for stopping by have a good one.

Darn it, everyone seems to be getting those winter blues, including me!
It's not so much winter, it's the snow & ice that comes with it. I'm getting too old to shovel snow & after a bad ankle break which broke both tib and fib and left me with metal plate & screws to hold it altogether, I don't welcome winter anymore. LOL
Lovely piece from you. :)

there is always the time when the show is done...and we lament its leaving until the next show is coming...

Nice poem!
I like the way is sounds when I read it,
it's melodic and goes to the ear well.

the message is beautifully presented as well.

No need to invetigate,
The show is closed....
until further notice.

I like that.

I feel this way about my blog sometimes. Like it's a lonely stage screaming to an empty house ... and I, its host, have walked away. I like the rhythm of this one. It reminds me of a song. It's also very apt to the days. It seems the blues are catchy!

I almost feel as if more could be said about why the stage is empty, the show ended. I like image of the memoirs, a bit of sarcasm, which colors the rest of the poem but what or who is the target?

I hope the hosts only closed for the winter. The whole world is a stage and seems on the verge of closing down.
Bring in the clowns and cheer us up. No,not the elections. I mean comedians or singers or dancers.
Beautiful sad poem but very enjoyable.

The winter-close sign does not let some of the eager readers still leave..
unusual work and quite subtle..

Yes there is something melancholy about a show closing and you have captured it well. Good writing.

Yes, hard days when our voices aren't heard...I think there is much more than meets the eye here...I'm going to have a think about this one. I like the details you've chosen...very effective.

This can be about any show closing. It reminded me of the circus as I live near Sarasota,Fla. where it is known for its' Ringling circus. I found this poem to be very entertaining in its' subject matter.
Very nice,

i enjoyed reading this,
i especially liked this line "whining silently life poetry
that nobody will hear",because it made me think of the different shades of the moments of our lives that could be written into poetry.

Your poem beautifully captures the need to "shut down" now and then...and look forward to the reopening!

For me, as a former New Yorker and longtime show and musician type as well as an activist, this had double meaning. First, a show ending its run; second, and more powerfully, the shutting down of Occupy camps all over the country.

Either way, powerful stuff. Thanks for stopping by my blog, Cello. I'm glad I found you! Peace, Amy

At once, evocative of loss and hope. I feel the bleakness:
"A lonely stage sits in sharp winds, whining silently life poetry
that nobody will hear,..." In the last phrase, "until further notice." gives me a sense that spring will come again. Beautiful.

Have you read "The Night Circus" yet? Your poem made me think the atmosphere of that book - which was also very intriguing!
