He's gone, along with the warship, to carry out his duty in Navy in a troubled land.

Unspeakable grief unfolds, flipping its wings like startled bats.

She stands there, not being aware of upcoming affair.

After a year, he brings home a baby whose mother is not her.

Well done though so poignant. At first I identified with the farewell having sent my husband off to Vietnam on 2 tours years ago. But our story ended well both times.

Isn't it interesting that so much can be packed into so few words? "Life is not fair." Well, there you have it. But what is fair? How can we ever be sure? Life is a series of lessons, each rich with the opportunity to grow. Your piece gives us much to think about. Good job! hugs, pat

Although there may be many possible parts of this story that indicate sorrow...there is also a possible "happily ever after" for the Navy man and his wife and this blessed bundle of joy. I love *happily ever afters* :o) ...so, I choose to think that the husband went to war...and rescued this little baby from being an orphan...to be brought home to become a part of his and his wife's life.

Blessings & Aloha!
Thank you for visiting :o) & come back any time.

These double dips on themes lead to some very good stories.

Everyone says that it is a sad story.

yet, it is sad indeed,

but, what if the child is a victim's baby her hubby adopted from the war,

which is a good thing to think about, it has a positive impact on her husband,

it is sad that the child is an orphan on that case,

agree?

A shocking development! Aha, we all jumped to the conclusion that the baby is his. Clever to leave it ambiguous at the end.

My mother used to tell me you could never trust a sailor. I asked why and she'd reply, "because they usually have a girl waiting in every port."
Who knows, this reminded me of that though.
Awwww Sad for the girl waiting.

I wonder how the other mother let the baby go? Must've broke her heart.

An AWESOME 55 that will linger in my mind.

Rek Sesh said...

Beautiful story and with some many possible endings...another question :will she accept the baby whatever be its origins?
